Free Ringtones for iPhones:
Apple released the iPhone a few years ago and it has become the most popular cell phone on the planet. With the recent announcement that Verizon will also be carrying the iPhone (along with AT&T), the iPhone 4G will surely be a huge seller in 2011. Now, beyond being able to browse the Internet, make phone calls, and listen to your music, iPhones are totally capable of doing much more. One thing that mobile phone users have been personalizing on their phones for years have been the ringtones. Ringtone files can be downloaded right to your cell phones, but for the most part they cost money. There are different software applications you can purchase in which you create your own ringtones. That was the idea behind our website. Who doesn't want to be able to make their own free ringtones? I know from personal experience that I don't mind purchasing songs from my favorite artists, but buying the same song as a ringtone and paying $1.00 or more seems ridiculous. The good news is that there are more and more options when it comes to getting music ringtones to your Apple iPhones. Apple offers a piece of software available from their website which makes ringtones - it does cost $19 for the full version - a free shareware version is available to try out. I find the website at http://audiko.net/# which is perfect for iPhone users if they want quick access to ringtones. Upload your track, choose the fragment for the ringtone, and allow the online software to do the rest and create the new, free ringtone. Yes, we said FREE. You can even upload Youtube videos with song tracks on them and it will extract the song into a ringtone. Once the ringtone is made, you then download the file to your computer and allow iTunes to find it. That is the second part to the creation process. iTunes has a 'ringtones' section to the interface and you can then transfer, or sync, your iPhone 3G or 4G with iTunes and get the ringtones onto the cell phone. Takes about 5 minutes to do the entire process. I tend to make several ringtones at the same time and then transfer over 5 or 10. It's a great way to personalize my phone and setup specific ringtones for different contacts.
There are other pieces of software you can purchase that will create the .m4r files required to get ringtones onto your iPhone. Just remember that you will need iTunes software installed onto your computer in order to have the whole thing work properly. I find it funny when you are sitting or standing in an area where lots of people have cell phones and all of a sudden one rings and everyone thinks it is there phone that is ringing. If you would just create a few unique ringtones, you'll never be tricked into thinking it's your mobile phone going off when in actuality it's just the guy next to you getting a call. Apple iPhones are a tremendous advancement when it comes to mobile devices so end users need to learn how to take advantage of all the features they offer.
iphone 4G Ringtones:
iPhones continue to get a little cheaper for the public to buy and now that Verizon Wireless is carrying them, we hope that carriers will discount them even more to be competitive amongst each other. The new iPhone 4G ($200) has easy access to ringtones. Go into the 'Settings' section and then touch the 'Sounds' link. Look for the 'Ringtone' link and touch that. You should see a section called "Standard" which shows all the basic ringtones that come pre-installed on your iPhone. These ringtones have some variety, but they are not snippets of popular songs or music that would make your phone unique. When you add new ringtones - that you create - you will see them added to this area of the iPhone. They will be transferred into an area called "Custom". My custom ringtones are all listed above the "Standard" ones and all I have to do is touch which one I want and set it to be my ringtone. I prefer to put different ringtones to different people on my contact list so I know who is calling without having to look at the phone. Great way to screen your calls without having to have the iPhone with you at all times. We are hoping that the future versions of the Apple iPhone will make it even easier to get music downloads turned into ringtones for your phone. Only Apple can make that happen with their user interface and how it works with iTunes. Otherwise, you will see third party software and application writers create programs that make ringtones accessible and free for iPhones.
